Cory MacLauchlin was first born and raised in Newport News, Virginia. He earned his Master of Arts in the University of Virginia in English.

He has traveled all over the Earth, but New Orleans stays his favorite place on earth. After seeing the devastation of Hurricane Katrina he dedicated himself to uplifting the importance of one of the very most significant cities in the U.S.. He developed a class on New Orleans history and culture in Christopher Newport University and he's led many student groups to assist rebuilding efforts in the Ninth Ward and St. Bernard Parish.

Presently a part of the English College at Germanna Community College, he teaches classes on American Literature, Southern Literature and Writing and Research. With a belief in the capacity of composing to rehabilitate lives, he offers writing and literature classes at a nearby state prison. He teaches a class on the literature of confinement there.

MacLauchlin has published on topics in American and British literature, ranging from Mark Twain to the intricate history of the Hummums, a centuries old literary institution of London. As biographer and manufacturer, he is featured in the documentary movie John Kennedy Toole: The Omega Point.

He resides in Virginia with his wife and sons.
