Alex's life revolves around creating things; mostly zines, customized pinback buttons (badges), vegan food, traveling programs, and distance to get a kitty in her mattress.
Alex Wrekk transferred out of Salt Lake City, Utah into Portland, Oregon in 1999 and continues to be creating the zine Brainscan since 1997. Alex is also the author of the seminal novel about zines, Stolen Sharpie Revolution: a DIY Resource for Zines and Zine Culture that was first published in 2002 and is now in it's 5th edition.
Alex has been producing custom pinback buttons because 2000 under different names. In 2012 Alex opened Portland Button Works and zine distro, an online and brick and mortar shop at Portland, Oregon selling zines and books and making custom switches, bottle openers, and magnets in a variety of sizes as well as an Etsy store with the same name.
If Alex isn't doing zine items she's doing additional zine things like organizing the Portland Zine Symposium, setting July as International Zine Month, commiserating using Zine Event Organizers across the world, upgrading the zine occasion listings on StolenSharpieRevolution.org, hosting the podcast Nobody Cares About Your Travels Zine Podcast, working with her Risograph printer, reading from her own zines out loud on zine excursions or singing in an zine themed pop-punk band known as The Duplicate Scams.
