I've really been a lecturer, specialising in childbirth and pregnancy in complementary, for nearly 30 decades and am acknowledged as an global authority on the subject. I'm especially passionate about blending complementary therapies such as acupuncture, aromatherapy, hypnosis and acupuncture with conventional maternity attention, as a means of easing anxiety, relieving distress and pain and facilitating normal birth. However, I am also concerned that expectant mums, and the professionals working with them, have to understand the dangers of improper use of organic remedies, like the hazards of combining them with medical drugs. I am campaigning to the subject of "complementary medicine" to be included in midwifery training to ensure that all midwives can inform mums-to-be suitably and safely.
I became involved in complementary medicine in the early 1980s whilst working as a midwifery lecturer in the University of Greenwich, London, and educated in several therapies such as reflex zone therapy (a type of reflexology), aromatherapy, massage, hypnosis, moxibustion and the secure usage of natural remedies such as herbs, homeopathy and Bach flower remedies. I ran a practice as part of the college work also have treated over 6000 pregnant mums women.
Back in 2004, in response to rising interest among mothers and maternity professionals, I left the University to install Expectancy to elevate awareness of the benefits and risks of using complementary therapies and herbal remedies in pregnancy and birth. Instruction is provided by expectancy for midwives, doctors, birth supporters practitioners instructors and anyone wanting to train as a midwife. We also have a group of practitioners who provide ex with therapies
