Duane H. Freitag was born in 1945 at Monroe, Wisconsin. He graduated in the University of Wisconsin -- Madison and grew up in the community of New Glarus. Following Army service in Vietnam he returned to perform in the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison. In 1973 he joined the team of The Milwaukee Journal, where he worked as a reporter and writer. He has been occupied on many different volunteer projects and retired in 2000 from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He's focused his research on the history of the Swiss colony at Green County, Wisconsin. He and his wife live in Greendale, Wisconsin. They have two children and four grandchildren. "Sauerkraut, Suspenders, and the Korean" is the only book.
