Since the 1980s Angel has been a driving force encourage and to professionalize body piercing. She became Director of Gauntlet, Inc., the first piercing specialty company in america, when it was still the only piercing studio in the country.
Within the professional piercing business Elayne Angel is called a pioneer for developing piercing techniques, formulating after maintenance instructions, and innovating a variety of new piercing placements. She's credited with naming the lorum, popularizing triangle and tongue piercings, and devising the fourchette and Princess Diana piercings.
Angel was President and founder of Rings of Desire, Inc., at the French Quarter of New Orleans, in which she dared for more than twelve years. Following Hurricane Katrina's devastation, her business closed and relocated into the Yucatan.
She also writes the monthly "Request Angel" column for body art industry publication, Pain Magazine. She is currently serving as President on the Board of Directors of this Association of Professional Piercers, and also "guest pierces" at fine studios across the U.S.
