Iceberg Slim, also referred to as Robert Beck, was initiated into the life span of this pimp at age 18 and was created in Chicago in 1918. He attended the Tuskegee Institute but dropped out to go back to the roads in this South Side, where he remained, until he was 42, pimping. After several stints in prison he turned to writing, crafting famously his classic, Pimp: The Story of My Life decided to quit the life. He died in 1992.
