James O. Born

I took a shot as an undergrad at Florida State but on road construction in Tallahassee aside from 1 article and even was always interested in writing I had been unsuccessful.

I proceeded on to police function. As soon as I was new to police work, as an agent together with U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, I had a clear view of what my job would be like. On tv, DEA agents are at shoot-outs and receive the chicks but in real life that they follow medication violators until a case can be made by them. You drive if you're a man, no one at the DEA about pursuits or family life. I read a great deal of Tom Clancy and W.E.B. Griffin because I liked the notion of studying something about the military. The occasional authorities publication would be read by me but believed the books didn't reflect my experience . I wasn't a CIA trained assassin. A shotgun couldn't tear out of the hands of someone without even suffering a catastrophic injury. I didn't crawl from police automobiles that are smashed and shake off the injury. Neither did. So I wrote a book based on real police work with a ficitonal plot.

The most fascinating aspect of being a writer is that my editor, Neil Nyren, is also the editor of both favourite military authors, Tom Clancy and W.E.B. Griffin.

The next novel in this series, Escape Clause, was released in February, 2006. The main character is followed by the story to your prison to investigate an custody departure that isn't what it appears. By chance, I was assigned to investigate a death the area I had employed as a model for the town and prison in my book, at South Bay correctional. Talk about life imitating art. Then a Department of Corrections Inspector asked me if I had been. I gave a post card for Escape Clause to him and watched his face as he recognized that I had written about the Department of Corrections.
