Janet Shipley Hawks was created in 1940 and raised in Kansas City in a household where sewing and creating were a way of life. As a kid she hung on her mother's spine as she churns at all times to know where she to a sewing machine! After graduating from the University of Kansas in 1962 she began a 25 year career in Occupational Therapy always exploring and working in rehabilitation. The need for a gift for artist friends in 2003 led to the development of "Sculpted Threads" and the consequent book. Instruct it and she continues to research this technique.
