Joshua Sullivan (born March 1978) is a computer scientist, business leader, and author who specializes in machine intelligence and data science, with previous research in network tomography. Sullivan authored The Mathematical Corporation and is a leading author of The Field Guide to Data Science. He currently resides in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Sullivan was a staff engineer with the U.S. government. Afterwards he served as a technical director for a small engineering company in Virginia, major business applications development and deployment for large-scale applications intelligence systems. Sullivan joined the technology and management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton in September 2005. Considered the company’s main data scientist, that he focuses on cyber analytics, computer vision, and machine learning. He is the author of The Mathematical Corporation, a book which details practical approaches for leaders to work with analytics to identify and prescribe radical new activities for the future. The publication aims to help leaders develop the abilities to collaborate with machinery to establish a new destiny in a post-analytics future.
He's co-author of The Field Guide to Data Science. Currently in its second edition, the Field Guide is a popular resource for senior leaders seeking field-tested approaches, private tips and tricks, and real life case studies to guide their data science travel. Sullivan established the Data Science Bowl in partnership with Kaggle, the predictive modeling strategy. Back in December 2014, Booz Allen and Kaggle started the Data Science Bowl, now the premier data science for societal great competition.
