Judith Van Gieson is the author of mystery novels that are thirteen. Her short stories have appeared in several puzzle anthologies. From the puzzle series eight novels comprising Albuquerque attorney/sleuth Neil Hamel were released by HarperCollins. The work of Neil frequently involved environmental issues including endangered species and wildfires. The Lies That Bind was a finalist for the Shamus Award for best detective novel. The show won Magnifico Literary Award's Spirit.

Two of the Neil Hamel novels, Ditch Rider and The Wolf Course, were included in a list of the 100 Best New Mexico Books. At 2012 that the winners have been announced following a year of voting by authors, readers, librarians and bookstores.

You will find five novels in the second show with heroine Claire Reynier published in paperback by Signet, at hardcover by University of New Mexico Press and also a large print version by Thorndike. Claire works as an archivist and librarian in the Middle for Southwest Research at UNM. This show involved artifacts and New Mexico history. The Stolen Blue has been a finalist for the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award. The Shadow of Venus was a finalist for the Barry Award and also won the Zia Award given by New Mexico Press Women for Greatest Work of Fiction with a New Mexico girl.
