Kelly Ashton Reviews

A self-described "pragmatic quilt-maker", Kelly Ashton methods quilt design and construction with an understanding of and an appreciation to the theoretical when searching for developing and skills and short-cuts which are sensible. Her passion for patchwork spans a dichotomy between "microwave quilts" (quilts which are simple in layout and quick to piece) and also "crock-pot quilts" (quilts which are more intricate and complex in their structure). She really loves playing with value and color, and she's a fervent fabric collector!
Also a long-arm machine quilter, Kelly has had the privilege of getting her work exhibited in several books and patterns, in addition to in many events and episodes of Fon's and Porter's Love of Quilting magazine along with PBS television series.
Her present quilt-making passion involves designing and piecing "60-degree" patchwork blocks and machine-piecing set-in seams ("Y-seams"). Her first book, "Hexagons, Diamonds, Triangles, and More: Skill-Building Techniques for 60-Degree Patchwork" (Martingale Publishing / That Patchwork Place) will probably be published in May, 2014.
Kelly resides in Overland Park, KS together with her husband. In addition to her fire, Kelly enjoys spending some time with friends and family, travel, reading, cooking, playing pinochle, along with singing with an Kansas City Women's Chorus.
Kelly is happy to present quilt-making lectures, back shows, and workshops to quilt guilds and quilt stores everywhere! She may be reached via her website: kellyquilter.com
