After spending years writing poetry, political speeches and analyses, as well as economic and technical reports on extraordinarily detailed and frequently boring subjects, I finally got around to writing my very first short story, which had been published in 1973. I maintained submitting and occasionally having printed stories until a editor signaled he would refuse to purchase some more until I printed a novel. I did, and it was printed in 1982, and I have been writing books -- combined with a few short stories -- actually since.
