Barry Friedman functions as the Director of the Policing Project at New York University School of Law, where he is currently the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Professor of Law and Affiliated Professor of Politics. He's among the nation’s leading authorities on constitutional law, criminal procedure, and the federal courts, having taught, written about, and litigated in those regions for more than thirty years. Friedman also is the Reporter for the American Law Institute’s project to write for policing agencies Policing best practices. He's the author of Unwarranted: Policing Without Permission (2017), and The Will of the People: The Public Opinion Has Influenced the Supreme Court and Shaped the Significance of the Constitution (2009), as well as numerous scholarly articles in Many Different disciplines. His work appears regularly in the press, including Huffington Post, Slate, the New York Times, Politico and the New Republic. He received his law degree cum laude and graduated with honors.
