Doug Borwick is an artist. He holds the Ph.D. in Music Composition from the Eastman School of Music and is an equally award-winning member of ASCAP. He acquired experience as an arts administrator and manufacturer working with the Arts Council of Rochester (NY) and throughout founding and directing the NC Composers Alliance at the mid-1980’s.
Dr. Borwick is a educator, having served for nearly half years as Director of the Arts Management and Not-for-Profit Management Programs in Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. (He was named Salem Distinguished Professor in 1997.) He served as President of the Board of the Association of Arts Administration Educators, an international business of higher education programs in the Area.
And Dr. Borwick is a top advocate for community involvement in the arts. He is writer of Artistic Matters, a site for ArtsJournal, author/editor of Building Communities, Not Audiences: The Future of the Arts in the U.S., as well as writer of Engage Today! A Guide to Making the Arts Indispensable. One of the nation's leading advocates for the arts and community engagement Dr. Borwick has served as keynote speaker and workshop presenter at conventions across the U.S. and Canada in addition to in Beijing and Singapore. He has been featured speaker for arts gatherings in Texas, North Carolina, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wisconsin and for its Canadian Arts Summit in Banff, Alberta. Moreover, Dr. Borwick is CEO of ArtsEngaged, offering consultation and training services to artists and arts organizations trying to participate in their communities more efficiently as well as CEO of both Outfitters4, Inc., supplying management solutions for nonprofit organizations.
