Brian Ashcraft is a writer based in Japan. He is the Senior Contributing Editor for video game website Kotaku. Ashcraft was a Contributing Editor at Wired Magazine, where he has covered subjects ranging from digital filmmaking to liquor chemistry and from Japanese propaganda into robotics. His work also has appeared in Popular Science, The Guardian, The Japan Times, and design diary Metropolis Magazine along with publications in the United Kingdom, Portugal, Italy and South Africa. He's been educated about gambling and engineering on tv in the USA and Japan.

In 2008, Ashcraft penned his first publication Arcade Mania! , which writer Warren Ellis known as "a fascinating, humorous and sharp-eyed appearance" at Japanese arcades. A version was printed in 2009. In 2010, Ashcraft released his second novel, Japanese Schoolgirl Confidential, that analyzed the effect of schoolgirls in Japanese pop culture and society.

Ashcraft is originally from Texas and now lives in Osaka with his wife and three sons.
