Karen A. Duncan

Karen is passionate about preventing child abuse along with promising that teens and children have a secure and healthy family to grow up in where they are protected and nurtured. In helping other people who have experienced the trauma of sexual abuse to live without violence and abuse she has dedicated her career.

Since the publication of her first book "Healing from the Trauma of Childhood Sexual Abuse: The Journey for Girls" her message of hope, healing and recovery was heard across the country through speaking engagements and professional trainings. She has been interviewed by CNN, the Today Show, Indianapolis Woman, along with local television and radio.

Karen is the recipient of the 2008 Outstanding Mental Health Professional Award from the Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Violence and was called 2005 Social Worker of the Year for Zone 7 from the National Association of Social Workers-Indiana Chapter. Karen serves on the State of Indiana's Sexual Violence Primary Prevention Council throughout the Indiana Department of Public Health, Office of Women's Health and helped to create Indiana's first statewide initiative in Preventing sexual assault. Karen is also a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Mental Health Counseling and serves on the Advisory Board for the Indiana Women's Prison.

Her brand new book “Female Sexual Predators: Understanding and Identifying Them to Protect Our Children and Youth” is expected to be released in August 2010 by Praeger Publishing a division of ABC-CLIO Publishing. She thinks we can't stop by dispersing to gender stereotypes family violence and sexual abuse. Indianapolis Woman Magazine published her article on preventing sexual abuse.
