I have always felt like I had been here to accomplish something special. I knew I had a goal. The only problem was I had no clue what “it” was. Sad to say I equated success and purpose to how much money I made. I worked too much. I had no balance in my life. I was completely miserable. I kept myself super busy to not need to handle the simple fact I wasn’t truly happy and that I wasn’t alive the best life I could. I'd set a goal, and get there. Just to understand that it didn't make me joyful. In reality, it did the exact opposite. I did not enjoy the journey along with the destination. I knew I was overlooking something. I was looking for meaning and purpose in my life. But I had been going about it wrong.

Then about a year before, I dropped everything. I lost my job and obtained a divorce- all at the same moment. I had been really struggling with my identity. “? Why am I here? What's my goal? ”I knew if I didn’t locate the reply to such questions, I would never be really happy. So, I started researching. I spent months examining everything I could find on happiness and purpose.

I read innumerable books, articles, and plenty of scientific research. It has been one hell of a journey. Now, I'm attached to my goal. Phillip Moffitt

Back in 1987 Phillip Moffitt walked from his highly successful article as chief executive and also editor-in-chief of "Esquire" magazine to concentrate on his inner life. After leaving "Esquire," Phillip spent most of his time studying Theravada Buddhism and practicing vipassana (insight meditation). In addition, he became curious about the mind-body connection and researched yoga, Jungian psychology, aikido, and somatic healing methods. After he had been practicing vipassana for seven years, Phillip was encouraged by Jack Kornfield, the founder of Spirit Rock Meditation Center, to participate in Spirit Rock's three-year teacher training. Back in 1998 after completing his teacher training, Phillip established the Marin Sangha in San Rafael, Calif.. Along with instructing the Marin Sangha, Phillip travels across the U.S. and Canada leading quiet meditation retreats and can be co-guiding instructor at Spirit Rock. The primary teachers of Phillip are Sri Swami Balyogi Premvarni along with Ajahn Sumedho.

Between 1999 and 2006, Phillip wrote a regular column for "Yoga Journal" known as "Dharma Wisdom." And in 2008 he released his first novel about living the dharma in daily life, "Dancing with Life: Buddhist Insights for Finding Meaning and Joy in the Face of Suffering."
