His previous book, "How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character," was translated into 27 languages also spent over a year on the New York Times hardcover and paperback best-seller lists. His first publication, "Whatever It Takes: Geoffrey Canada's Quest to Change Harlem along with America," was released in 2008. He's a contributing author to the New York Times Magazine, in which he's written extensively about education, parenting, poverty, and politics. His writing has also appeared in the New Yorker, the Atlantic, and GQ and about the op-ed page of this New York Times. He's worked as an editor in the New York Times Magazine and Harper's Magazine and as a reporter and producer for its public-radio program "This American Life." He was also the founding editor of Open Letters, an internet magazine. He resides with his wife and two sons in Montauk, New York.
