Jesse Schell

Jesse Schell is the author of the critically acclaimed novel "The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses," printed in 2008. The book captured Game Developer Magazine's coveted "Front Line Award" at 2008. In 2014, he published another edition of the book.

Not only is it Jesse an author, he's also the founder and CEO of Schell Games. Since starting Schell Games in 2002, Jesse has grown it to the largest and most successful game development business in Pennsylvania. Under his direction, Schell Games has generated an remarkable array of innovative, transformational and award-winning entertainment experiences, such as the Disney Fairies MMO, Pixie Hollow, Toy Story Mania TV Game and some of the very common interactive theme park attractions in the world.

Jesse also holds a faculty position as Distinguished Professor at the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) of Carnegie Mellon University. Because 2006, Professor Schell has educated the Building Virtual Worlds course, created by ETC Co-Founder and also "The Last week" author, Randy Pausch.

Before beginning Schell Games, Jesse has been the Creative Director of the Disney Imagineering Virtual Reality Studio, where he worked and played seven years as designer, programmer, and director on numerous projects for Disney theme parks and DisneyQuest.

He is perhaps most renowned for his style of Disney's Toontown Online, the first massively multiplayer game for children. Toontown Online won many awards, including the following:
