Rick Steves

Rick Steves advocates smart, affordable, perspective-broadening journey. As host and writer of the popular public television series Rick Steves' Europe, and also best-selling author of 40 European travel books, he encourages Americans to travel as "temporary locals." He helps American travelers connect much more intimately and authentically with Europe — and Europeans — for a fraction of what mainstream tourists pay.
Within the previous twenty decades, Rick has hosted over 100 travel shows for public television, along with many pledge specials (raising tens of thousands of dollars for local channels). His Rick Steves' Europe TV chain is completed by over 300 channels, reaching 95 percent of U.S. markets. Rick has also generated two award-winning specials for public television: Rick Steves' European Christmas along with the revolutionary Rick Steves' Iran. Rick writes and co-produces his television programs through his company, Rear Door Productions.
Rick Steves also hosts a weekly public radio program, Travel with Rick Steves. Having a broader approach to travel anywhere, in every hour-long program Rick interviews guest travel expert, followed by listener call-ins. Travel with Rick Steves airs across the country and has spawned a favorite tradition. Rick has also made a collection of audio walking tour podcasts for both museums and neighborhoods in Paris, Rome, Florence and Venice (using much more tours, such as London, arriving in 2010).
Rick self-published the very first edition of his own travel skills novel, Europe Through the Back Door (currently updated annually), in 1980. He's also written more than 40 other nation, city and regional guidebooks, term books, and "picture" guides. For many years, Rick Steves' Italy has been the bestselling international guidebook sold in the U.S.. Back in 2009, Rick tackled a brand new genre of travel writing with Travel as a Political Act, reflecting on how a lifetime of travel has eased See all Rick Steves products
