Tetley Tea maintains a tradition of quality started over 160 decades ago in England. At the beginning of the 19th century, brothers Joseph and Edward Tetley founded Joseph Tetley & Co. in 1837, after successfully promoting tea off the rear part of the pack horse for many decades. In 1856, they transferred the company to London--then the middle of the planet's tea trade. They finally parted, and Joseph unveiled the newly appointed "Joseph Tetley & Co., Wholesale Tea Dealers. "In 1871, Tetley took his son Joseph "Junior" into partnership. Business flourished and the company expanded its services to include blending and packing. From 1888, the business was prepared to take its next important step-an arrangement with American agents to disperse Tetley's teas throughout the United States.

Tetley & the Tea Bag

Though earnings of tea in tea bags accounted for only 5% of Tetley's sales by the 1930s, the company accurately pegged them as the future of tea trade. War interrupted instant production plans, but the base was set for the initiation of the Tetley Tea Bag at Britain in 1953. Tetley continued to innovate with the debut of the round tea bag to the U.S. in 1992,that literally altered the shape of this market. Tetley further revolutionized the industry with the unveiling of their first drawstring tea bag, in 1997. Designed to squeeze every possible drop of taste into each cup, Tetley drawstring tea bags have become a popular with lovers of hot tea.
