Doris Lessing

Doris May Lessing CH (née Tayler; 22 October 1919 – 17 November 2013) was a British novelist, poet, playwright, librettist, biographer and short story writer. Her books include The Grass is Singing (1950), the arrangement of five books collectively called Children of Violence (1952–69), '' The Golden Notebook (1962), The fantastic Terrorist (1985), and five novels collectively called Canopus in Argos: Archives (1979–1983).

Lessing has been awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature. In awarding the prize, the Swedish Academy described her as "the epicist of the feminine experience, who using scepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a broken civilisation to examination". Lessing was the eleventh woman and also the oldest man ever to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.

In 2001, Lessing was awarded the David Cohen Prize for a lifetime's achievement in British literature. Back in 2008, The Times rated her fifth to a list of "The 50 best British writers since 1945".

Richard Miller Flanagan (born 1961) is an Australian novelist out of Tasmania. "Considered by many to be the finest Australian novelist of his generation", according to The Economist, each of his novels has attracted significant praise and received numerous awards and benefits. In addition, he has written and directed feature films. The 2014 Man Booker Prize was even won by him.
